Journalist Me

travel1LIFE, is full of unplanned and unexpected twists and turns.

If someone asked me 25 years ago, being a journalist would be the last thing in my mind.

And yet, I spent almost 25 years of my life as a journalist. From being an intern, to a freelancer (while finishing up my degree) …Both at The New Straits Times Press Bhd, I then became a full-pledged writer at The Star Media Berhad.

I was “married” to my job and just like any marriage, it wasn’t always rosy but the beautiful parts outweighed the bad parts and I stuck on for the next 21 years 10 months.

Some of my proudest moments:

  • Winner of The German Press Award 1997 (English publications) (Organised by Goethe Institut and The German Embassy)
  • Winner of The German Press Award 2002 (English publications) (Organised by Goethe Institut and The German Embassy)
  • Winner of Tinta Gafim Awards (Film) for English Newspapers 2008 (organised by Gafim and FINAS)

Apart from movies and music-related articles for The Star’s Star2, I am also writing articles on food and culture for local magazines. I have also worked as translator (Malay to English primarily) for job and business presentations.

Here’s some samples from my published articles in THE STAR over the years…
